This phase introduces 13 new routes, delivered in partnership with Dublin Bus and Go-Ahead Ireland. These routes will serve areas spanning Dublin Airport, north Dublin, the city centre, south Dublin, Dún Laoghaire, and north Wicklow, increasing overall bus service levels in these areas by over seven percent.

The E1 and E2, collectively known as the E-spine routes, will operate 24/7, running from north of Ballymun, through the city centre, and on to Dún Laoghaire and Bray/Ballywaltrim. These routes will enhance access to key destinations, including third-level institutions like UCD, TCD, DCU, and TUD, as well as hospitals such as the Mater, Rotunda, Temple Street, and Loughlinstown.

With the addition of E1 and E2, there are now 12 round-the-clock bus services in Dublin’s TFI network. The introduction of these services aligns with the Government’s Night-Time Economy Taskforce recommendations to enhance public transport options at night, supporting work, social activities, and the night-time economy.

Phase 6a also sees the launch of route 19, connecting Dublin Airport to the city centre via Ballymun, Wadelai, and Drumcondra. Operating every

20 minutes for most of the day, with increased frequency during peak times, the 19 will initially terminate at Parnell Square. From January 26th, three weekday morning peak services will extend to Merrion Square, with three evening peak services returning from there. Additional Merrion Square services will be introduced on February 4th, with full day-long service starting in April.

Additionally, eight new local routes—L1, L2, L3, L12, L14, L15, L26, and L27—are being launched. These routes aim to improve connectivity to local centres and provide better links to onward transport, particularly in south Dublin and north Wicklow.

Hugh Creegan, interim CEO of the NTA, commented: “Today’s launch reflects our commitment to a more connected, accessible, and reliable public transport system, giving passengers greater choice and flexibility in their daily travel. Expanding round-the-clock services and enhancing connectivity are key to supporting Ireland’s growing population with sustainable, efficient transport options.”

Billy Hann, CEO of Dublin Bus, added: “We’re excited to start the new year with services that will significantly benefit our customers. The E1 and E2 routes, operating 24 hours a day, will play a crucial role in supporting Dublin’s vibrant night-time economy.”
