Often referred to as Chinese New Year, this celebration is observed across numerous Asian cultures, including Vietnam, Korea, Mongolia, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei. It’s a time for renewal, joy, and community.
As part of Dublin’s Lunar New Year Festival, Dublin Town, in collaboration with Dublin City Council’s City Coordination Office and local businesses like Asia Market, is organizing a series of events to bring people together, celebrate traditions, and showcase the capital’s rich cultural diversity.
The festivities will take place on Sunday, February 9th, from noon to 5:00 pm, spanning Drury Street, Suffolk Street, and Capel Street.

This year’s celebration will welcome the Year of the Snake with a spectacular showcase of Asian culture, including food, music, dance, and a stunning 10-metre-long Asian dragon and snake display.
Visitors can enjoy live performances by Asian musicians, savor delicious dishes like dumplings and noodles from local vendors, and participate in family-friendly activities, including arts, crafts, and cultural displays.
Richard Guiney, Chief Executive of Dublin Town, said: “The Asian community has contributed so much to Dublin and has become an integral part of our vibrant and diverse city.
“This diversity is what makes Dublin such an incredible place to live and visit. We’re thrilled to celebrate this occasion with our Asian friends and colleagues, bringing the joy of the Lunar New Year to the streets of Dublin City Centre. It’s a fantastic opportunity for Dubliners to embrace the Year of the Snake while experiencing the rich culture and cuisine of Asia.”
