She replaces James Geoghegan, a former councillor who won a TD seat for Dublin Bay South in the general election.
Ms. Blain, the 357th Lord Mayor of the city, serves as the representative for the Pembroke local electoral area on the Dublin City Council.
She was elected to the Dublin City Council six months ago after serving as a councillor on the Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council since 2016.

According to a statement from Dublin City Council, Ms. Blain will give priority to issues like dementia awareness and care for the elderly, as well as the promotion and involvement of sport in communities, especially for women and girls.
Since 2020, Ms. Blain has represented Ireland at the European Committee of the Regions.
Her father was the principal of the Church of Ireland College of Education in Rathmines, where she was raised.
She is currently the editor of the Church of Ireland Gazette, having previously worked as a journalist for the Sunday Independent.
