Speaking on RTÉ Radio’s Morning Ireland, Mr. Tapley said that while power could be restored to many homes and businesses by Tuesday, remote areas in the northwest, midlands, and parts of the southeast may not have electricity until later in the week.
“Outages are scattered across the country,” he explained, noting that low-voltage network faults often allow only eight to ten homes to regain power per repair.
To support the restoration efforts, 60 technicians from France arrived on Monday, joining teams from Northern Ireland Electricity. Mr. Tapley highlighted a reciprocal agreement between Ireland, the UK, and France, which facilitates mutual assistance during such emergencies. Recently, ESB staff helped restore power to 1.2 million customers in France following Storm Ciarán.
The restoration process, particularly in smaller affected areas, involves clearing debris and addressing multiple individual faults. As a result, it may take until the end of the week to fully restore power to all customers, Mr. Tapley added.
