Nearly 35% of the renewable electricity produced last month came from wind farms, according to grid operator EirGrid.
Over the course of the month, 1,003 GWh of energy were generated by wind. Overall, 40.4% of October's electricity came from renewable sources like wind, solar, and hydropower.
Grid-scale solar generated 52 GWh of electricity last month, which was significantly more than the 32 GWh recorded in October of last year but still lower than the summertime highs. In October, 1.8% of electricity came from grid-scale solar.
Based on the data, 42.5% of all electricity utilised in October came from gas generation, with slightly over 12% coming from interconnection imports, 3.7% from coal, and the remaining 1% from other sources.
Diarmaid Gillespie, Director of System Operations at EirGrid stated , "We had over 1,000 Gigawatt hours of wind on the system in October, which is the first time this has passed the 1,000 GWh mark since March of this year as the windy weather returns."
