According to the bank, the improvements will involve 35 renovations and 112 branches.
With 10,000 employees nationwide, AIB has the biggest branch network in Ireland.
Clifden, Dunmanway, Ennistymon, Killarney, Killorglin, Letterkenny, Millstreet, Tallaght, Tubbercurry, and Tullow are among the 35 branches that will undergo progressive renovations by the end of 2025 as part of the bank's investment.
Abbeyfeale, Athy, Ballinamore, Ballinrobe, Buncrana, Cahir, Cahirciveen, Carndonagh, Carrick-on-Suir, Cashel, Castleblayney, Castletownbere, Cobh, Dundrum Town Centre, Dingle, Edenderry, Kenmare, Killaloe, Killybegs, Kilmallock, Lismore, Rathdowney, Spiddal, Western Road (Cork), and Youghal are all included in Phase Two.
According to AIB, the investment supports the objectives of the government's newly released National Payments Strategy and shows the company's dedication to preserving its branch network and cash services.
Additionally, it stated that the investment will assist support its goal of becoming net zero across Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 by reducing its operating carbon emissions by an additional 10% and using certified renewable power from two solar farms in Wexford.
Geraldine Casey, Managing Director of Retail Banking at AIB, stated that although the great majority of its clients handle their daily financial affairs online whenever and wherever they choose, AIB acknowledges that they also appreciate the in-person assistance offered in branches, especially when it comes to crucial financial decisions and support.
"All of our clients will feel at ease discussing their financial matters with us in a friendly setting at our branches. To further reduce our carbon emissions, we are supporting AIB's plan and spending €40 million to renovate these locations," she stated.
