Since the scheme’s relaunch in May 2024, 17 businesses have received a 50% rates discount for up to two years after moving into premises that had been unoccupied for 12 months or more and were previously used for retail purposes.

Ms. Archibald commented, “We all want to see our town centres and shopping areas flourish, so I’m thrilled to visit two new businesses in the heart of Coleraine that are contributing to the revitalization of our high street by bringing in vibrancy, foot traffic, and investment.

“The Back in Business scheme not only offers financial relief through reduced rates for the first two years, but it also breathes new life into long-vacant premises, supporting the regeneration of Coleraine’s town centre and boosting footfall for other local traders.

“I encourage anyone starting or expanding a business to consider setting up in a vacant unit and taking advantage of the rate support available through this scheme.”
