The celebration honours the approximately 60,000 Irish men and women from all across the island who fought and lost their lives in the two World Wars and the Battle of the Somme. It is an island-wide occasion.
The Royal British Legion in Ireland, working with the State, arranged the event. It started with a wreath-laying ceremony honouring the service of those who fought in the wars.
