The Ryder Cup player managed to overcome last year’s disappointment after losing out to Rory McIlroy on the final hole on Sunday.

This year was not meant to be for Rory, the Northern Irishman finished tied 4th at -14 after carding a 68 on the final day. McIlroy could’ve really challenged at the top of the leaderboard if his putting matched his all-round game during the fourth round.

Irishmen Padraig Harrington and Tom McKibbin both missed the cut in North Berwick, while Seamus Power finished tied 65th at -3.

On the LIV Golf Tour, Sergio Garcia won his first LIV Golf title at Valderrama. Garcia beat Crushers GC’s Anirban Lahiri in a playoff hole after drama at the 18th, in which Lahiri missed a putt inside five feet to take the title home.

Garcia also captained his Fireballs GC’s team to the team title alongside David Puig, Eugenio Chacarra and Abraham Ancer.

Both tours will look to Royal Troon as The Open Championship takes place as Brian Harman looks to defend his Open crown.
