The company stated that by the end of 2028, all homes and businesses in Ireland, which includes more than 2.4 million locations, will have access to high-speed gigabit broadband thanks to ongoing investments and the government's National Broadband Plan.
According to its Economic and Social Impact Report, Eir has spent about €1.7 billion on telecommunications infrastructure during the last six years.
The report estimates that eir directly employs 3,170 people in Ireland and generates about 4,755 indirect and induced jobs across the country.
Additionally, the analysis demonstrates that Ireland's broadband infrastructure supports €172 billion in economic activity nationwide.
"A digitally inclusive economy and society are crucial for Ireland’s future," eir CEO Oliver Loomes stated.
"With an additional €500 million committed investment in our communications infrastructure, eir is committed to strengthening this foundation," stated Mr. Loomes.
Anthony Foley, an Associate Professor Emeritus of Economics at Dublin City University Business School, put together the report."What we have found in conducting this research is that a cutting-edge digital network infrastructure is the foundation of a flourishing digital economy and society," stated Professor Foley.
"The globalisation and FDI aspects of the Irish economy mean that broadband infrastructure and services, and international digital connectivity are significant competitiveness issues," he stated.
