BDO Ireland’s Economic Impact Assessment report indicates that, in 2023, the league contributed €164.7 million through both direct activities and indirect impacts, such as supporting local businesses and employment.

The league’s contributions include an estimated €40 million in tax revenue, underscoring its importance to national finances.

Public interest in the league is on the rise, with 826,086 fans attending games in 2023—a 19.5% increase from 2022. Total attendance, including cup and European matches, reached 966,994.

Television viewership also grew significantly, with total viewership more than doubling since 2021 and peak viewership increasing by 80%, reaching over 3.08 million in 2023, reflecting the league’s growing appeal.

The SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division recorded the highest attendance growth, up by 169%, while the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division and First Division rose by 59% and 159%, respectively.

The largest single game attendance in 2023 was 8,021 for Shamrock Rovers’ home match against Sligo Rovers. In the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division, the top attendance was 1,464 at the Shamrock Rovers vs. Peamount United match at Tallaght Stadium.
