This county is known for its seismic activity, experiencing smaller quakes that often go unnoticed by residents. The recent quake occurred around 1:18 AM near Culdaff Bay on the Inishowen Peninsula, measuring 0.9 on the Richter scale.

Brendan O’Donoghue, a physics teacher, oversees this initiative as part of the global Seismology in Schools project. The school is among the most successful in this network, having recorded over 1,000 tremors since joining the program nearly 15 years ago.
The latest earthquake was also logged by the Irish National Seismic Network (INSN) and the British Geological Survey’s Seismology team. The most powerful earthquake ever recorded on land in Ireland was a magnitude of 2.5, which struck the Fanad Peninsula in Donegal on January 26, 2012.
