Mr. O'Shea, a publicist and auctioneer from Killorglin who is active in the Laune Rangers, stated that keeping the Fine Gael seat in the district and representing Kerry nationally will be his top priorities.

Three current Fine Gael council members removed their names from consideration on Friday before of this evening's convention in Killarney.

Members had nominated Councillor Tommy Griffin, who was recently elected in the Corca Dhuibhne local electoral constituency.

In addition, he works as Brendan Griffin's assistant and cousin, the departing Fine Gael TD.

Both Councillor Mike Foley and Councillor Mike Kennelly of the Listowel Municipal District, who were nominated as Dáil candidates in 2020, retracted their nominations and expressed gratitude to their supporters.

Billy O'Shea, who is headquartered in Killorglin and has close ties to Killarney, Listowel, and Tralee, stated that he would bring "a fresh face" and fresh perspectives to the county.

He said that despite having played competitive sports his whole life, he was fully aware of how fiercely competitive the Kerry constituency is.

He declared that he would also make local housing building a top priority.
