Dogs Trust has created a brief questionnaire for current dog owners as well as dog lovers without pets. The goal is to gain insight into how challenges like rising living costs and housing shortages are impacting both dogs and their owners.

According to Dogs Trust, this information will help them offer useful advice to dog owners and better understand their difficulties.

A recent survey from the charity revealed that over 10% of people have considered giving up their dog. In 2024, Dogs Trust received 2,366 requests from individuals wanting to surrender their pets.

Paulina Padlo, communications manager for Dogs Trust Ireland, described the census as a groundbreaking initiative that will help shape their campaigns, services, and support. She noted that Ireland is still facing a serious dog crisis, with hundreds of dogs being surrendered or abandoned each month.

“Dog welfare is constantly evolving, and having the most current and accurate information about our canine companions’ lives is crucial to our efforts,” Padlo said. “We’re inviting both dog owners and dog enthusiasts to share their stories so we can ensure every dog lives life to the fullest.”
