Taoiseach Simon Harris will chair the summit at Government Buildings, aimed at fostering a “collective focus across Government” on implementing the new Online Safety Framework.
Ministers will receive updates from regulators and gardaí on implementation strategies, potential obstacles, and ways the Government can assist their efforts in both Ireland and the EU.
Representatives from Coimisiún na Meán, the Data Protection Commission, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, ComReg, and An Coimisiún Toghcháin are expected to attend.
Speaking ahead of the summit, the Taoiseach remarked: “We are at a pivotal moment in regulating the digital space. This is our chance to make a difference, especially for vulnerable users like children and young people.
“I want to ensure there is a clear legal understanding, both in Ireland and across the EU, that the online world is not a lawless space. The rules that apply offline must also govern online activity.
“With the forthcoming Online Safety Code and the Digital Services Act, we have powerful tools at our disposal. Our task now is to use them effectively.
“We are dedicated to fulfilling our regulatory duties in a consistent, timely, and coherent way, to provide the necessary protections for individuals and society, while also offering clarity for industry.
“I look forward to hearing from the Regulators about their continued plans for enforcing and implementing these crucial, ground-breaking regulations.”
Mr. Harris also intends to meet with broader stakeholders to represent the views of online users, including children and vulnerable groups.
