Harry McNulty claimed that wearing his running trainers and competing in the races makes him feel good about himself and is "a real social thing."
His dedication and "remarkable lifetime of distance running participation" have now been acknowledged with a unique award, following his historic half marathon.
Also, he was given the 2024 Danny Sheerin Memorial Award at the Derry finish line on Sunday.
Mr. Sheerin, a well-known local runner who competed in every Derry half marathon since its start in 1981, passed away in 2022. Harry expressed his gratitude for receiving the esteemed prize on: "I was shocked because I was totally unaware of it."
He continued: "I thought it was unbelievable to be honoured in Danny Sheerin's name he who contributed so much to mass participation and the enjoyment of participation."
Harry described Danny as a "such a nice man" who personified the "joy of participation."

Two years after he began running, in 1981, Harry took part in his first Waterside Half marathon. "My sister-in-law and I ran the old course, which was an out-and-back course. We ran 6.5 miles straight down the road and back," he said.
Harry said, "A lot has changed since then, and not just with regard to the structure of the course."
He is happy that park runs and shorter half marathon events in the relay format are contributing to the growing popularity of running.
