Earlier in the swimming events, Ellen Walshe finished eighth in the final of the 400-meter individual medley, and Danielle Hill came eighth in her semi-final of the 100-meter backstroke.

In other news, Ireland’s Liam Jegou narrowly missed out on a medal in the men’s C1 canoe final, placing seventh overall. He would have won silver if not for a 2-second penalty at his last gate.
