The construction of the new Maldron Hotel at the ancient Dublin field began with the sod being cut by managing director Martin Magee and GAA president Jarlath Burns.
The 200-room hotel will have a restaurant and bar area, a fitness facility and five conference spaces for corporate purposes. In 2026, it is anticipated to open to the public.
The location is 140 meters from Croke Park on the grounds of the former Clonliffe College, near the intersection of Clonliffe Road and Jones's Road.
The hotel will be operated under the Maldron brand by the largest hotel operator in Ireland, Dalata Hotel Group.
Two Maldron hotels that were constructed by McAleer & Rushe, one with 188 rooms in Manchester and the other with 268 rooms in Liverpool, have just opened.
According to McAleer & Rushe, the GAA was involved in the project from the beginning.
The hotel will have a classic red brick façade made by hand to blend in with the surrounding structures.
"This is a good development for the GAA and Croke Park representing an additional offering that will be welcomed by our members and supporters when planning journeys to the stadium," stated GAA President Jarlath Burns.
"The GAA has a good connection with McAleer & Rushe, who have been long-time supporters of the organisation.
"Dalata is an excellent Irish business that has a track record of running top-notch hotels. In addition to boosting local jobs, the new hotel will improve the area.
