Julie-Ann Russell scored her second goal of the week, having previously assisted Denise O’Sullivan, as Ireland secured a 3-1 victory at Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

Cork’s own O’Sullivan opened the scoring with a long-range effort that caught the French goalkeeper off guard. Anna Patten added Ireland’s third goal in the final minute of regular time.

To highlight the significance of this result, only world champions Spain and Euro holders England have managed to beat France in their last 19 matches. This victory ensures that Ireland will be seeded for the autumn’s playoff draw.
