The pilots started an indefinite work-to-rule on Wednesday, refusing to work overtime, accept changes to their schedules, or respond to out-of-hours management requests. Additionally, an eight-hour strike is scheduled for Saturday.

A resolution seemed distant after the Labour Court announced on Tuesday that it would not intervene at this time. However, on Wednesday afternoon, the Irish Air Line Pilots’ Association (Ialpa) agreed to talks with Aer Lingus while continuing the work-to-rule.

Aer Lingus and Ialpa, part of the Forsa trade union, have been engaged in a contentious exchange, each blaming the other for a lack of engagement. The pilots are demanding a 24% pay increase, citing inflation since their last raise in 2019. Aer Lingus has indicated a willingness to offer pay increases of 12.5% or more if there are discussions about productivity and flexibility improvements.

The two parties are scheduled to meet at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday. The travel plans of tens of thousands of passengers have been disrupted, with the airline working to provide refunds or alternative flights for those affected.

Taoiseach Simon Harris has welcomed the news of the renewed talks.
