Mendes is slated to helm four distinct theatrical productions, one featuring each member of the most renowned and enduring band in music history.

Each of the four films, which will be released in 2027, tells a linked story from the perspective of a different band member.

Based on recent reports, Paul Mescal and Barry Keoghan have been cast as two of the Fab Four. According to film industry analyst Jeff Sneider, Mescal will play Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan will play Ringo Starr, Harris Dickinson, star of The Iron Claw, will play John Lennon, and British actor Charlie Rowe will play George Harrison.

Mescal had already been connected to the impending Beatles biopics; according to a recent Hollywood Reporter piece on the Irish actor, Mendes had the Normal People star at the top of his wish list for the roles.

However, Sony, the production company behind the impending Beatles films, has not verified the claim.

The news that Mendes would direct all four instalments of the “Beatles Cinematic Universe” broke in February. “It is an honour to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time,” said the Oscar-winning filmmaker.

He went on, saying he was “excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies.”

For the first time, The Beatles and their firm Apple Corps have approved complete life narrative and music rights for a written film. Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison have all granted permission and music rights for the four films.

Production on the ambitious four-part film event is anticipated to begin in 2025 and go through 2027.
