There are five sites proposed, with interested buyers to be told of the electricity generation capacity and costs associated with each one.

Should the companies behind each project agree to the offers at the auction, planning permission needs to be acquired.

The auction comes as part of Government plans to grow offshore wind energy generation to seven gigawatts by 2030.
