This facility is the first new acute hospital to be built in Ireland in almost 20 years and stands as one of the largest healthcare investments ever made in the Mid-West region. Its opening marks a major milestone in expanding access to high-quality healthcare services for local communities.
The hospital is launching in phases, beginning with the relocation of initial services, including a state-of-the-art cardiac catheterisation laboratory, the first private cath lab in Limerick and the wider Mid-West. Over the coming weeks, additional services, including surgery and associated specialties, will transfer to the new facility. In the following months, patients will also gain access to a broader range of specialties, such as cardiology, respiratory medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, dermatology, and advanced diagnostic imaging.
Alan Sharp, Group Chief Executive of Bon Secours Health System, described the opening as a significant achievement for both the organisation and healthcare in Ireland. “This €213 million investment demonstrates our long-term commitment to delivering excellent patient care, supporting medical innovation, and generating meaningful employment opportunities across the Mid-West,” he said.
Jason Kenny, CEO of Bon Secours Hospital Limerick, emphasised the impact on patients and the wider community. “From the very first day, patients will benefit from access to cutting-edge technology and expert care. This hospital is set to transform healthcare delivery in the region, while also providing strong, sustainable career opportunities for hundreds of healthcare professionals,” he added.
The new hospital underscores Bon Secours Health’s dedication to combining advanced medical services with a patient-focused approach, reinforcing Limerick's role as a hub for private healthcare excellence in Ireland.
