Vacant for over a decade, the iconic venue is now being transformed into a cutting-edge facility through a 20-year lease agreement with Dundalk Institute of Technology (DKIT).

The new Dundalk Tennis Arena will feature four top-tier indoor courts designed for both professional and recreational play, complete with high-quality surfaces, spectator seating, and dedicated training spaces for players of all ages and skill levels.

The project has been described as a “labour of love” by former Irish Davis Cup player and current Tennis Leinster Performance Director John McGahon. “It’s about giving young players opportunities many never had–year-round access to world-class facilities,” he said.

Tennis Ireland CEO Kevin Quinn called the development a landmark moment for the sport in Ireland, raising the facility as a significant step forward in providing consistent, high-quality training environments across the country.

DKIT President Dr. Diarmuid O’Callaghan expressed the college’s enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that leasing the space to Tennis Ireland reflects DKIT’s ongoing commitment to promoting health, wellness, and broader community engagement.

Beyond hosting regional and national competitions, the arena will serve as a vital hub for tennis development programs, national training camps, and initiatives aimed at involving schools and local communities in the sport.

With its official opening scheduled for this summer, the Dundalk Tennis Arena marks a new chapter for Irish tennis – offering a long-awaited indoor venue that will support player development and promote the sport across the region.
