On February 20, the two Irish sisters posted to TikTok their appeal for Easter eggs, gaining over 6,000 views. About a month later, they received donations from across Ireland through Revolut, and even those in their hometown dropped off eggs at Nan’s Centra & Off License, the shop where their father Thomas Metcalfe works as a delivery driver.
The chocolate eggs will be given to the Children’s Health Ireland Hospital at Temple Street on April 17. “At the moment, we have 540 Easter eggs and we’re just trying to get as many this year as we can to get it bigger and bigger each year hopefully”, Mr. Meltcalfe elaborated on their ambitions. “It’s hard as a lot of shops only let you buy a few eggs at a time.”
This charitable initiative began when Lauren, who has admitted to not being the biggest fan of chocolate, broke her leg before Easter and had received lots of eggs which she decided she wanted to give to children in hospital. It was 12 years ago, and roughly 18 or 19 eggs were distributed, with the number rising year upon year.
In 2023, the family earned media attention from the likes of breakfast show Ireland AM and public service broadcaster RTE after collecting around 820 Easter eggs.
“My nanny watches Ireland AM every morning so it was crazy to be on the show in real life”, Lauren concluded. She encourages other young people who want to something similar to be consistent and believe in their ideas.
