The motorists appeared before Judge Eiteain Cunningham at a sitting of Letterkenny District Court, where two operators of GoSafe speed detection vehicles were present to provide evidence.

The cases involved multiple locations across Donegal, including Dromore, near Letterkenny. Garda Sergeant Gerard Dalton called the GoSafe operators to testify regarding alleged speeding offences.

After being sworn in, the operators detailed the recorded speeds, locations, and registered vehicle owners. They also confirmed that fixed charge penalty notices had been issued to the vehicle owners.

However, when Sergeant Dalton asked whether the fines had been paid, the GoSafe operator admitted he did not have access to that information. As a result, Sergeant Dalton had no choice but to withdraw the cases.

In a separate incident, another speed van operator was unable to confirm the date of an alleged speeding offence from the provided data sheet, leading to that case being withdrawn as well.
