As part of a dispute resolution process between Irish Distillers and the Connect trade union about the profit share, reward, and benefits system, the Labour Court recommended that Irish Distillers Ltd. pay €4,700 in cash to 250 workers at different grades.

Louise O'Donnell, the deputy chairwoman of the Labour Court, rejected Connect's proposal in the recommendation that the €4,700 be made available to both new hires and current staff.

According to Ms. O'Donnell, the €4,700 is intended to make up for any losses that current employees might sustain as a result of the modification to the Profit Share Scheme, "so there is no basis for extending it to new employees who commence work after the date of this recommendation."

Irish Distillers informed the Labour Court that what was being offered was a good plan for all employees and that they were not willing to compensate new hires in cash as well.

Some of the most popular and prosperous Irish whiskies in the world, such as Jameson, the best-selling Irish whisky worldwide, are produced by Irish Distillers.
