A council officer acknowledged at the most recent Belfast City Council committee meeting that the new LGBTQ stained-glass window's design and idea had been approved, but he also mentioned that the public still did not have access to the specifics.

The LGBTQ stained-glass window concept advanced to the council's "Stage

1: Emerging" stage in May 2022.

Five years prior, in 2017, a council motion had proposed the idea.

The Army's Explosives Ordnance Disposal Company, the Fire Brigade Union, and stained glass windows honouring Belfast sport were among the other suggestions put out at the time.

Plans to install stained glass windows honouring Belfast's LGBTQ community and another specifically honouring health workers were "prioritised" in the city hall.

In December 2024, the LGBTQ stained glass windows proposal was authorised by the City Hall and Grounds Installations Working Group, according to a report for the Strategic Policy and Resources Committee.

These entail gatherings that are closed to the public and media.

According to the report: "The working group received an update from the client manager regarding the concept and design for a new LGBTQ stained-glass window in Belfast City Hall. An revised draft sketch of the stained glass window was shown to the working group.

The working group was told by the client manager that the design team's changes aimed to take into account the input from a recent workshop that was attended by members, the design team, and stakeholders to discuss the idea and design.

She informed the group that further information will be included and that the revised draft sketch would be further improved. She added that the working group would receive a final drawing in January 2025.
