Mescal, currently in the spotlight for his upcoming film Gladiator II, will become the seventh Irish actor to host the show, joining the ranks of Gabriel Byrne (1995), Pierce Brosnan (2001), Liam Neeson (2004), Colin Farrell (2004), Saoirse Ronan (2017), and Brendan Gleeson (2022).

A native of Co. Kildare, Mescal wi”l share the stage with country star Shaboozey, who is set to perform as the evening’s musical guest.

Hosting SNL marks an unexpected turn for Mescal, known primarily for his dramatic roles. He first gained recognition for his portrayal of Connell Waldron in the television adaptation of Sally Rooney’s Normal People, which catapulted him to fame. Since then, he has appeared in acclaimed films such as God’s Creatures, The Lost Daughter, Aftersun, Foe, and All of Us Strangers.
