The Six Nations champions weathered a significant scare, fending off a determined fightback from Los Pumas to rebound from last weekend’s disappointing 23-13 loss to New Zealand.

Ireland started strong, building a 22-9 halftime lead with tries from Jack Crowley, Mack Hansen, and Joe McCarthy. However, they failed to score in the second half, enduring a tense finale to secure the victory.

Reflecting on the match, Farrell said: “It was three or four games in one, wasn’t it? Obviously, the overriding feeling is we’re delighted to get the win. There are a few things we needed to learn from last week and some things we didn’t address on the field. But we said last week we had a chance of winning ugly, and we did that this week, so that’s a plus.”

Argentina, coached by former Leinster fly-half Felipe Contepomi, came close to achieving their first-ever win on Irish soil. The match followed an impressive year for Los Pumas, who had already claimed notable victories over France, New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa.

Andy Farrell’s side will face Fiji next Saturday in the Aviva Stadium, before the November finale against South Africa.
