The BBC Northern Ireland Rewind website now features over 9,000 new video footage from the 1990s. Islanders on Rathlin may see the 1994 unveiling of the first Housing Executive houses, while Derry GAA supporters can relive the county's 1993 All-Ireland football success.

The new program snippets are an important addition to the current archive, according to Ciaran Daly, content and partnership editor at BBC Archives.

"It now contains over 30,000 video assets, all of which can be viewed for free," he stated.

"This project was finished as part of larger celebrations to commemorate the 100th anniversary of BBC services in Northern Ireland."

It is possible for users of BBC Rewind to look for local documentary footage.

The BBC originally aired from Northern Ireland a century ago. Tyrone Guthrie, who went on to have a successful worldwide career in both theatre and broadcasting, was the first voice to be heard over the airwaves from Belfast in 1924.

The first Belfast transmitter was situated across from the present-day Lanyon Place train station on East Bridge Street in the city's east.
