The initiative, called the Dublin City Night-time Economy Strategy, is being spearheaded by Ray O’Donoghue, the city’s newly appointed night-time economy advisor.
“This plan is a call to action for all stakeholders to come together and create a nightlife that is sustainable, world-class, and exemplary,” O’Donoghue said.
He added, “Our goal is to build a safer, more inclusive, and culturally dynamic Dublin. Through practical, ground-level initiatives, we aim to make the city one of Europe’s top night-time destinations.”
The strategy's main Initiatives include:
· Extended late-night programming: Synchronizing cultural
institutions and venues to host more late-night events.
· Safe spaces: Establishing safe zones in key night-time
districts.
· Pop-up events and café gigs: Introducing pop-up cultural events
and performances to enhance the night-time atmosphere.
· Art installations and film screenings: Showcasing temporary
public art and screenings to enliven public and cultural spaces.
· Improved lighting: Working with city officials to enhance
lighting in high-traffic areas.
· Public transport enhancements: Increasing the frequency of
public transport services to ensure safe, accessible travel.
· Campaigns and training: Launching awareness campaigns and
training programs to promote best practices and create a nightlife free
from discrimination.
· Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Arts, Catherine Martin, also endorsed the strategy, saying, “A vibrant nightlife can not only boost the city’s economy but also foster a stronger sense of community, making Dublin a more exciting and inclusive place to live and visit.”
