A total of 35 athletes participated across nine sports, bringing home six medals: one gold, three silver, and two bronze.

The closing ceremony of the 2024 Paralympic Games took place last night in Paris, where the French organizers officially passed the baton to Los Angeles for the 2028 Games.

Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport, and Media, Catherine Martin, extended her congratulations to everyone involved with Team Ireland.

“From the athletes to the coaches, the sporting organizations, Paralympics Ireland, and Sport Ireland—and of course, the families, friends, and supporters of the athletes who make such a vital contribution.

“The Paralympic Games represent the culmination of years of dedication and effort. These athletes have not only inspired the next generation of Paralympians but are also a credit to their families, coaches, and communities.

“The Government is heavily investing in sport to ensure that our athletes can prepare for prestigious international competitions in the best possible way.

“We will continue this investment in the coming years, not only in the high-performance system but also at the grassroots community level.”

Minister of State for Sport, Physical Education, and the Gaeltacht, Thomas Byrne, shared his experience of attending the Games in Paris.

“It was an honour to witness our remarkable athletes in action and to see the tremendous support they received during their events. The entire nation is incredibly proud of our 35 athletes.

“They have represented Ireland with distinction and created truly historic moments over the past two weeks that will be remembered for a long time.

“The Government is proud to have supported Team Ireland with record funding for high-performance sport,” Minister Byrne concluded.
