This closure comes as part of a wider shift in how members are choosing to interact with the credit union, favouring online banking services over in-person visits.
For several years, the Credit Union Plus Sub-Office in Delvin has provided services to its members, operating on Saturdays from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm. However, over time, the number of people visiting the branch has decreased significantly. Many members now prefer the convenience of digital services, while others are opting to visit the larger branch in Clonmellon, which offers full banking services and remains open on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
Despite efforts to keep the Delvin branch operational, the dwindling footfall has led to the difficult decision to close its doors. The closure reflects a growing trend within the financial services sector, where more and more people are relying on online platforms for their banking needs.
In a statement made to Midlands 103, a spokesperson for Credit Union Plus expressed their gratitude to the Delvin area members for their ongoing loyalty and support throughout the years. They emphasized that while the Delvin branch will no longer be available, members can still access Credit Union Plus services at other nearby branches, including those in Dunshaughlin, Ballivor, Ballyjamesduff, and Navan.
The closure of the Delvin branch marks a significant change for local members who have long depended on the in-person services, but Credit Union Plus assures them that their banking needs can still be met through alternative branches or the growing range of online services.
