The Drogheda resident was added to the Louth party ticket and will run alongside Senator Erin McGreehan, who was selected to run earlier this month by the local Fianna Fáil branch.
Ms. Comyn has hosted news shows on the Sky channel in addition to serving as the main news presenter for UTV Ireland.
She worked for the Drogheda Independent as a reporter as well.
Ms. Comyn "has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to public service and community throughout her career and will make an excellent addition to the Louth Fianna Fáil ticket," according to a statement released by Fianna Fáil.
Congratulations to @alisoncomyn who has been added to the ticket for the Louth Constituency for the next general election. She will join Senator @ErinMcGreehan on the ticket.

The Fianna Fáil ticket now includes Ms. Comyn, while Gráinne Seoige, another well-known broadcaster, is vying for the party's nomination to run in Galway West.
Local Fianna Fáil members have given Ms. Seoige and the other seven the backing they need to attend the next selection convention in the five-seat constituency.
