In a championship match between Clonoulty/Rossmore and Kilruane McDonaghs, on August 5, 2022, at Semple Stadium in Thurles, Mr. Quirke, then 24 years old, fell and died.

In memory of Dillon Quirke, the Dillon Quirke Foundation was established to increase public awareness of SADS. Dillon's father, Dan Quirke, who founded the organisation, stated that the work being done is crucial.

He stated that although the foundation has a five-year plan, government support is necessary for their greater goal. "We had quite a few ministers and TDs at our lunch in April and they promised us what we are doing is the right thing and they will come in behind us when the time is right."

Mr. Quinn clarified that Advanced Medical Services Cork does the heart exams and sporting clubs get in touch with the foundation.

After that, parents receive questionnaires, which they must return to Advanced Medical Services. He said that the cardiac scan takes around twenty minutes.

Seven thousand youth have undergone screening in the eighteen months since the charity was founded. According to Mr. Quirke, about 6% of instances are investigated.

It is an amazing homage to Dillon. Our goal when we initially started in December 2022 was to screen 5,000 films in the first year, but technically, we have already screened over 7,000, and we anticipate screening 10,000 films by the end of the year."

According to Mr. Quirke, the foundation's nationwide fundraisers are the reason for its success.

"We were presumably founded as a GAA charity, but today we have involvement from all sports—rugby, soccer, basketball, horse racing, you name it—and it's amazing.

"It is great for us that we know that Dillon is making a big difference to other children's lives," he stated.
