The company has teamed up with Apian, a healthcare and logistics startup with headquarters in the UK that links medical facilities with drone operators and services.

The two companies are collaborating with Medtronic, a healthcare technology business, Blackrock Health, and St. Vincent's Private Hospital in Dublin to initiate a drone delivery trial aimed at showcasing the potential applications of drones in healthcare logistics.

In the beginning, the delivery service will include supplies for heart valve replacement, surgical instruments, sutures, and a Medtronic ingestible camera. Pacemakers and Implantable Cardiac Defibrillators (ICDs) will be included later.

In the upcoming days, Blackrock Health, Blackrock Clinic, and St. Vincent's Private Hospital in Dublin will welcome the first births.

According to Wing, hospitals can now get medical supplies more quickly and reliably from its drones than from the road vehicles they already use.

The project's backers stated that they are closely collaborating with the Irish Aviation Authority to make sure the operations comply with the regulator's requirements. The pilot programme is set to begin with up to 100 weekly flights.

According to Nicole Schone, Head of Marketing and Communications at Wing, “Wing is happy to support two innovative hospitals and a global leader in healthcare technology to meet their needs for a more efficient delivery service for essential technology.”

Medtronic's Group Commercial Director, Kristian Howells, stated that the initiative offered a stimulating prospect.

Drones might help overcome some of the limits of traditional supply networks. The knowledge gained from this pilot programme will assist us in developing patient-centred, more robust supply chains, according to Mr. Howells.

The collaboration, according to Dr Caroline Whelan, CEO of Blackrock Health, is a perfect illustration of the potential that arises from incorporating technology into the healthcare sector.

“We are excited by the possibilities that come with this drone delivery service, and hope to expand this beyond receiving medical supplies, by extending uses to other services in time between our hospitals,” stated Dr. Whelan.

According to Brian Fitzgerald, CEO of St Vincent's Private Hospital, the pilot will help the hospital investigate how incorporating drone technology into its operations might increase supply chain management, improve patient care, and make it run more smoothly and sustainably.

Wing started carrying out delivery experiments in Lusk, County Dublin, in 2022. These tests included demonstrations of drone delivery and community interaction.

In recent years, the Irish drone startup Manna has also conducted many drone delivery trials.
