More than fifty artists, musical performances, dance groups, and food vendors participated in the free event held at the Royal Hospital in Kilmainham, which offered a taste of African culture to a broader audience.

The yearly occasion is a component of the global Africa Day festivities, which are held on May 25 each year to honour the Organisation of African Unity's founding in 1963.

Since 2006, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Irish Aid have arranged celebrations on the day, and over the next several days, smaller celebrations will be held in every local authority.

The Discovery Gospel Choir, Slí na Croí, Kiruu, and Monte DJ were among the musical artists that performed. There was also a drumming workshop and dancing activities.

A ‘cultural village’ comprising of twenty organisations exhibiting art and culture from all across Africa, as well as several food vendors and children's performers, were additional features of the event.

Declaring that "Africa Day is an important event to celebrate Ireland's growing links with the continent of Africa," Fianna Fáil TD and Minister of State for International Development and the Diaspora, Seán Fleming, remarked.
