In anticipation of the midday start of the parade, crowds of people adorned in leprechaun hats, Irish jerseys, and sunglasses fashioned like shamrocks packed the capital's streets.
Travellers from as far afield as China, Bolivia, and California came to see the colourful show.
Grand marshal of the procession and host of the Late Late Show Patrick Kielty called the day “the biggest party in the world.”
Over 4,200 people participated in the procession, which included eighteen pageants and acts.
A “quiet space” with sensory sections and lower volumes was established next to College Green for 1,000 neurodivergent individuals and their families, marking a new development in this regard.
At Collins Barracks, a Festival Quarter featuring food vendors, games for kids, and music began to open at lunchtime.
A group studying the subject and the circular economy, the “Dublin Seagulls” as a centrepiece, and fourteen marching bands from France, North America, and Ireland were among the attendees.
A widely observed holiday worldwide, several US parades were rescheduled for Saturday.
In the words of Kielty, Patrick, a guy from Downpatrick, County Down, and a graduate of St. Patrick's School, is "the proudest man in Ireland."
Being the grand marshal, according to the broadcaster, is “a massive honour” and “emotional” for him.
“One of my proudest moments in life is leading this parade as the Patrick.”
He went on, “I believe that the reason St. Patrick's Day is so significant to people is that it allows us all to participate in something and it unites a large number of people.” I believe that occasionally we could take it for granted here.
“That's what it's about, as someone who has lived overseas and understands what that day means to so many people who are yearning for a connection to their lives back home.”
“Especially when you come from the North, growing up, St Patrick’s grave was at the Church of Ireland, basically everything that used to happen through some type of binary prism.”
“The idea of we’re now in a position where we can actually share these things, I think that’s why today is so important.”
