The visit is to mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement that brought peace to Northern Ireland. It will make Mr. Biden the eighth US president to visit Ireland on official business.
Tuesday, 11th April – Mr. Biden will touch down in Belfast.
Wednesday, 12th April – Mr. Biden’s time in Belfast will be marked by a meeting with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, followed by a public address at Ulster University. After that, he’ll fly south to Dublin, before heading to Carlingford, Co. Louth.
Mr. Biden’s great-great-grandfather, Owen Finnegan, was from the Cooley Peninsula. He emigrated to the US in the 1840s.
Thursday, 13th April – Mr. Biden will travel to the Phoenix Park to meet with Michael D. Higgins at Áras and Uachtaráin, the residence of the Irish president.
After that, he will meet with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar at Farmleigh House. The US ambassador, Claire Cronin, also has her official residence in the Phoenix Park, so Mr. Biden may meet her too.
Later that day, Mr. Biden will address the Oireachtas, following in the footsteps of John F Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, and Bill Clinton.
Friday, 14th April – On his last day in Ireland, Mr. Biden will travel to Mayo, where he’ll visit Ballina. The US president’s great-great-great-grandfather lived in Ballina, before emigrating to Pennsylvania in the 1850s.
In Ballina, Mr. Biden will deliver his final public address at St Muredach’s Cathedral. He will head back to the States from Dublin Airport that night.
