The study examined countries on nine different metrics, including homicide rates, the Global Peace Index, and natural disasters.

The study labelled Ireland as a country 'filled with natural beauty and enveloped in history, culture and tradition', giving special reference to Temple Bar and the Guinness Storehouse.

Ireland came in just below Finland (6th) and just above the Netherlands (8th).

Switzerland was ranked by the study as the safest country in the world, followed by Iceland, Norway, Denmark, and Luxembourg.

The top ten was closed out by Austria (9th) and Sweden (10th).
