Right-wing
campaigners have been accused of organising and inflaming the anti-immigrant
protests. In the capital, anti-immigrant protests have been held in
Ballyfermot, Ballymun, East Wall, and Drimnagh, among other areas, since the
turn of the New Year. A number of the protests have been held outside refugee
centres and temporary accommodation, as well as at schools.
The
counter-demonstration at Fairview bridge was organised by local group Northside
for All. The crowd were joined by local councillors and politicians, such as
SocDems’ Gary Gannon T.D.
