The number of crèche spots and the number of children under four in 43 constituencies have been compared by location intelligence company Gamma Labs.

Dublin South-West and Cork South-West were found to have the fewest spots. On average, there are now 41 crèche spots available for every 73 children in the country between the ages of 0 and 4.

According to the firm, the ratios are intended to show the demand for childcare services in the nation, even though the children may not be looking for a spot in a crèche because of their age or household arrangements.

Dublin Bay South had the most childcare spaces (1.4 children per place), according to a study that compared constituencies with the highest and lowest ratios of children per crèche seat.

The only other constituencies in the nation with 1.5 children per place or fewer were Dublin Rathdown, Galway East, Galway West, Limerick City, and Sligo-Leitrim, all of which had 1.5 children each.

There were two or more children per crèche spot in ten constituencies. With 2.2 children per spot, Cork South-West and Dublin South-West had the worst facilities.

While Dublin Fingal West, Limerick County, and Louth had ratios of two children per crèche space, Cork North Central, Dublin Central, Dublin Mid-West, Dublin West, and Offaly all had ratios of 2.1.
