This is the most recent proposal for the pub location, which had previously been the subject of 85 unit plans. The "excessive height and density" of these designs led to their rejection earlier this year.

A fresh proposal has now been submitted, and if it is accepted, 55 units, a new restaurant and bar, a café, a beauty salon, a gym, and a medical facility would be constructed. There will be 17 one-bedroom flats and 38 two-bedroom units spread throughout the building's four to six stories.

"[The current building] represents an underutilisation of a key urban site in terms of its layout scale and massing," the application states.

We have looked into the possibility of reusing the space, but because of its layout, floor-to-floor heights, and restricted use, it is difficult and inefficient to transform it into a more suitable building type. When sustainability issues are taken into consideration, it is evident that demolition and material recycling are the better course of action."

Observations on the proposals were welcomed until November 19 after the application was submitted on October 16. The deadline for a decision is December 10.
