The study analysed the top 50 highest-grossing horror movies, looking at their monthly search volume in Ireland during October since 2020. From this, they identified the films that Irish audiences turn to for their Halloween scares. The result? A hair-raising lineup of the nation’s favourite spooky flicks.

Topping the list with a bone-chilling 73,200 searches every October since 2020 is IT. Pennywise’s menacing grin continues to haunt the dreams of Irish viewers, making this ‘80s-set horror a perennial Halloween favourite.
Close behind is The Conjuring, with 63,900 searches. This supernatural thriller, filled with ghostly encounters and based on real-life events, has earned a strong following among Irish horror fans.
In third place is Five Nights at Freddy’s, which garnered 63,300 searches. Based on the popular video game series, it’s quickly becoming a new Halloween must-watch in Ireland.
The Exorcist claims fourth place with 46,500 searches, proving that its iconic scenes still send shivers down spines. Rounding out the top five is the legendary sci-fi horror Alien, drawing in 41,800 searches, and continuing to terrify and captivate audiences decades later.
