The purpose of the meeting is to generate desperately needed humanitarian funds and to rally support for a truce between Israel and Hezbollah, the militant group supported by Iran that controls a sizable portion of Lebanon.

Ireland has promised to provide an additional €2 million in relief to displaced individuals and refugees escaping the conflict.

"The humanitarian situation facing the people of Lebanon is catastrophic," Mr. Martin stated. It is the duty of the international community to react.

Support for Lebanese institutions, such as the Lebanese Armed Forces, is another goal of the conference. "This meeting comes at a critical time for Lebanon," asserted Mr. Martin.

"We cannot tolerate the extent of the displacement, death, and damage we are seeing. The bloodshed must end. We urgently require a cease-fire and regional de-escalation.
