This mission marks Ireland’s first commercial rocket launch and is set to position the country as a key player in the European space industry.

Historically, European orbital launches have been primarily conducted from French Guiana in South America. With the European Union’s stated goal of achieving space sovereignty, this Irish launch signifies a new chapter for Europe’s space ambitions.

T-Minus Engineering will contribute expertise in solid rocket propulsion, on-board electronics, and launch operations, while SUAS Aerospace will handle the complex logistics, including site acquisition, licensing, and stakeholder engagement for the Pathfinder mission.

The launch will take place on Ireland’s west coast, an ideal location for commercial rocket activity. The site offers cost efficiency, easy sea and air access, and a large safety zone over the Atlantic Ocean.

This location is expected to establish Ireland’s foothold in the European launch market and spur government investment in space infrastructure.

Rory Fitzpatrick, CEO of SUAS Aerospace, stated: “The Pathfinder mission represents a major milestone for Ireland’s space program. It will showcase our technical capabilities, stimulate economic growth, and create jobs. Our partnership with T-Minus ensures the highest safety and regulatory standards, setting the stage for future space ventures.”

Hein Olthof, CEO of T-Minus Engineering, added: “With limited space in the Netherlands, the Pathfinder project offers us an exciting opportunity to expand across Europe. This partnership will benefit our customers and drive innovation, positioning Ireland at the heart of Europe’s space growth.”

Olthof further highlighted that new launch sites like Ireland’s will promote the harmonization of launch regulations across Europe, making space access more efficient and helping Europe gain a competitive edge in this critical industry.
