PI Hotels and Restaurants Ireland Ltd is behind the planning application for the eight-storey Premier Inns hotel on Arkle Rd, Sandyford Business Park, which includes setbacks in its design.
A planning report submitted to Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council outlines Premier Inns’ goal of expanding in Dublin and beyond, offering quality yet affordable accommodation for both business travellers and tourists.
The UK’s largest hotel brand, Premier Inns, is owned by Whitbread. According to a report from planning consultancy Tom Phillips + Associates, Premier Inns opened its first hotel in Dublin on South Great George’s Street in November 2021, following a €19 million redevelopment of a historic site that had long been vacant.
Since then, four more Premier Inns hotels have opened in Dublin City, located on George’s Street, Newmarket Square, Castleforbes, and Gloucester Street South, according to the report.
Sine Kelly, an associate at Tom Phillips + Associates, added that construction is also underway for a new Premier Inns at Twilfit House on Middle Abbey Street. Additionally, the brand opened its first hotel outside Dublin earlier this year in Cork City.
Ms. Kelly highlighted the benefits of the planned hotel, noting that it will provide 162 rooms in a prime location within Sandyford Business Park, close to transport links such as the Luas, multiple bus routes, and the M50.
She emphasized that the proposal presents a favourable planning scenario, offering modern hotel accommodations in a mixed-use area with offices, residential, and commercial properties. Sandyford Business District is a key economic hub in south Dublin, making it an ideal location for the new hotel.
Ms. Kelly also pointed out that the hotel will attract a variety of businesses in the area by enhancing the accommodation options for business travellers. Additionally, it will appeal to visitors to south county Dublin who may wish to explore the southeast and broader Leinster region.
