Netflix recently released set photos of Murphy alongside the show’s creator, Steven Knight.
Oscar winner Murphy, 48, will reprise his iconic role as Tommy Shelby, the notorious gangster, in this highly anticipated film.
Joining the cast is Barry Keoghan, 31, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in The Banshees of Inisherin. Keoghan’s role in the film remains undisclosed, though it’s known that the storyline will follow the Shelby family as they navigate the turmoil of World War II.
The Dublin-born actor, known for Saltburn, adds to the intrigue as the action moves into a new historical era for the Shelby clan.
The original series, which aired on the BBC from 2013 to 2022, spanned six seasons and chronicled the Shelby family’s rise to power after World War I.
Also joining the cast is Dune actress Rebecca Ferguson, though Netflix has yet to reveal her character.
Knight has teased this new installment as an “explosive chapter” in the Peaky Blinders saga, promising an intense, no-holds-barred experience.
Murphy, who will also serve as a co-producer on the film, has described it as “one for the fans.”
Earlier this year, Murphy dominated awards season for his portrayal of J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, taking home an Oscar, Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Screen Actors Guild award for his performance as the father of the atomic bomb.
