The Saturday afternoon school is a trial program aimed at assisting Ukrainian kids in maintaining ties to their mother tongue and cultural heritage.
The organisers also hope that it would facilitate the greater integration of young refugees into their communities.
The school was established with assistance from Leitrim Development Company and currently enrols forty students from Leitrim who are eight to twelve years old.
The nonprofit organisation assists recent immigrants from Ukraine and refugees who have moved to the county from other regions of Ireland.
"The children, who arrived from Ukraine, have already weathered significant changes in their lives.
Since the spring of 2022, Nataliya Byelyakova, a volunteer working with refugees from her native Ukraine, has observed that they are having difficulty adjusting.
"By creating a weekend camp it helps them to find new friends, settle faster, and maintain their roots."
